Is Art Medicine? We begin to answer the question in Rx Art: Take your Medicine (RxArtSA.org), a series of exhibits and workshops at various locations across the City. The program, organized by the non-profits Bihl Haus Arts (bihlhausarts.org) and the Health and Healing Consortium (hhcinfo.org), is scheduled for October 2009. We are seeking artworks from health care professionals—doctors, nurses, bodyworkers, therapists, energy medicine practitioners, dentists, etc . . . . –who are also artists. All media—all visual arts, film, literature, poetry, music, performance--considered. Rx Art investigates art’s potential to heal both artist and viewer, and on all levels--spiritual, mental, emotional, physical. It promotes the benefits of the therapeutic arts for communities and individuals. Participating Artist-Healers address how their particular artwork aids in self-care and healing and helps them in their work with clients and patients. Art galleries and other cultural and health-related organizations are also eligible to participate. Deadline for submission of materials is August 21, 2009. For application materials and more information, please go to RxArtSA.org, or contact For Kellen McIntyre at kellen@bihlhausarts.org , or 383-9723, or Paula Davies at pdavies@hhcinfo.org , 722-5648.
